She's Here!

August 27, the day AFTER my due date, was like any other day being 40 weeks pregnant.  I could not do a whole lot because I was so uncomfortable, but I tried to get out of the house at least once so I would not go stir crazy.  I met my friend Monique for lunch and that was about all I could handle in the Houston heat.  So after lunch, I went home to watch some TV until Scott got home from work.  When Scott got home, we watched an episode of our new addiction, the TV show Lost.  While I was sprawled out on the couch, I started to get contractions, but did not think anything of it because this happened almost every night.  I was convinced I was going to have to wait to meet Miss Sophia until I was induced Friday, September 2.  However, the contractions continued to get stronger and closer together, so I started to time them.  Sure enough, they went from 4-5 minutes apart to 2 minutes apart in a few hours.  Since I was having difficulties standing during the contractions, we decided we should head to the hospital.  We arrived around 9:30 pm and my contractions were still 2 minutes apart.  Unfortunately, I was still 2 cm dilated and after a few more hours, I stayed at 2cm.  The nurse told me that I was probably going home and I could not imagine going home and going throught his again.  I told her that the contractions were too strong to sleep through, so they went ahead and got an IV started with some pain medicine so I could be more comfortable.  I also went for a walk around the hospital because I was determined to have this baby tonight!  Luckily, the doctor went ahead and broke my water early the next morning, and that was all I needed.  My contractions immediately grew so intense I asked for the most amazing thing in the entire world-the epidural.  I don't know how I would have survived the labor with out it!  After a few hours of painless contractions, I was 8 cm and they told me I would be pushing very shortly.  It all happened so fast, and at 10:34 am on Sunday, August 28, Sophia was born.  She was 7lbs 7 oz and 19.5 in long-She was perfect!  I was so blessed to have the smoothest delivery I could have imagined.  Meeting little Sophia for the first time was so amazing, I will never forget it.  Seeing a baby that was just in your stomach for 10 months is such a miracle from God.  Scott and I are so thankful for all of our many blessings, especially our precious new addition to the family!  We could not love anything more than our sweet baby girl.

Baby Time???

On Tuesday, at 37 1/2 weeks preganant, I celebrated my best friend Monique's birthday.  Since August is restaurant month in Houston, we had a fabulous 3 course meal at Mockingbird Bistro for a fun girl's dinner.  The night before I was unable to sleep because I was in alot of pain and very uncomfortable.  The discomfort continued throughout the day, but I wanted to make it to dinner to try and get my mind off of it.  As soon as our desserts came out, I really started feeling pain all over my stomach and did not know what was going on.  Luckily, it was at the end of dinner, so we left shortly after.  As I am driving home, I start feeling even worse, so I call Scott and let him know that I think we might need to head to the hospital.  When I get home, I change and make sure I have everything packed in my hospital bag.  We arrive at the hospital around 11 pm and I am hooked up to monitors to check the baby's heartbeat and my contractions.  Sophia's neartbeat is great but of course, no contractions are coming up on the monitor and the nurse looks at me like I am crazy.  She tells me I am probably going to be sent home but I can walk around to see if they come back.  So we walk for about 20 minutes and then I go back to the room.  When I put the monitors back on, my contractions immediately start up.  Soon, I am having contractions every 1-2 minutes and so the Doctor comes in and gets everything ready as if I am having Sophia sometime soon!  The nurse starts my IV, they give me fluids, I sign all the paper work for delivery, and Scott even pays the hospital bill.  But, after about 6 hours of contractions, they stop and I have not dilated past 1 1/2 cm.  They do not want to induce me or break my water because I would have a higher chance of needing a C-section.  So, we are sent home very sleepy and without baby Sophia.  All in all, it was a crazy night, but I definitely feel better prepared and less nervous about when I will actually be giving birth(which hopefully is VERY soon).

The Nursery Is Complete!

The nursery has definitely been a work in progress, but it is finally ready for baby Sophia.  We have all the necessary things (I think!) thanks to all the great gifts I received from friends and family at my showers.  Now that I have less than 4 weeks, I am going a little stir crazy.  Hopefully, Sophia will want to come a little early because we cannot wait to meet our little girl.  Of course, it is not up to us, so we are eagerly awaiting her arrival.  Here are some pictures of the nursery.

Shower #2

Last Saturday, my parents hosted a family shower at their house.  It was really exciting because boys were invited so Scott was able to participate in the fun!  We ate Pappasitos fajitas for dinner and I even enjoyed a virgin margarita:)  We received some really great gifts and it was really good to hang out with my family.  Here are some pictures from the shower:

Baby Shower Time!

This past weekend my best friend Monique, my two sisters and my mom hosted an amazing baby shower for me. It was so great to spend time with family and friends in anticipation of Sophia coming. I received so many necessary things for the nursery and it is really starting to set in that our little girl is coming soon. Some of the amazing gifts we got were: our car seat (yeah-we can take her home from the hospital!), high chair, diaper champ, bathroom rug, monogrammed burp cloths, swaddle blankets, and a sound machine. I am so blessed to have such wonderful support during this time and I could not have asked for a better baby shower!

Avery's First Birthday

It is so unbelieveable that Avery is already one year old.  It seems like just yesterday I visited her in the hospital after she was born.  This definitely made me realize how quickly time goes by and to enjoy every minute with our baby girl when she comes. 

30 Weeks-10 More To Go!!!

I am now 30 weeks and cannot believe I only have 2 1/2 months left until we get to meet baby Sophia.  I finally took a picture of my belly(eventhough I did not want to!) so I could remember what I looked like at this stage of pregnancy.  Everything is going so quickly and I know August is just around the corner.  I am now seeing my doctor every two weeks, and my check ups have been going great.  Sophia is measuring and growing just as she is supposed to.  She is super active and I am not sure when she sleeps because she is kicking and hiccupping all day and all night.  I wonder if this is a sign of what's to come-I'm a little nervous:)  I have 2 more weeks of teaching summer school and then I am officially a "stay at home Mom!"  I am very excited to have July free for baby showers and preparing for our little one.
